Ancient Greek & Rome, Dark Ages, Middle Ages/Medieval Ages

Middle Ages/Medieval Ages 1350-1450 (1450-1550)
  • Black Death --Bubenic Plague.It lasted for hundreds of years and killed a lot of people.


Dark Ages 400-1200
  • Controlled by "Holy Roman Empire"
  •  "Holy Roman Empire" stole marbles from buildings that were built in Ancient Greek & Rome period    to build new churches.
  • Pope Gregory I made a collection of religious music which is called Gregorian Chants or Plainchant. The religious music that Pope Gregory I collected are monophonic. He put all the songs into a book named Liber Usualis which contains over 800 chants.The text of the songs are all about "God", "Maria", "Jesus", etc.
  • All chants are in Latin
  • Religious music -- sacred music.    Secular--non religious music.
  • Troubadours/Trouveres/ (wondering musicians)
  • There was a women named Hilegard Von Bingam. She was the only known woman composer until Renaissance period.
  • All the music is in the texture of monophoty.


Ancient Greek &  Rome 800 B.C
    Lute
  • The people in that time sometimes would get together talk and dance like the parties we have nowadays.
  • They wore Jacuzzi.
  • They had elevators but without eletricity.
  • They had running water.
  • They had a lot of beautiful mosaic and marble.
  • The Aulos is flute.
  • The first instrument is lute.
  • They had polyphonic music. ( contains many different melodies)
